The frontline healthcare groups using our Amplifi ID technology are encouraged to share their drug checking stories. We hope they provide insight into the many ways that these services can improve individual outcomes and community health.
Street Hydromorphone
“A community member came to our center last week and requested to speak with us about his situation. He had recently been in an accident and as a result had been left physically disabled and unable to work. He explained he couldn't get a doctor to help him with pain medication, and although he had never used street drugs he had become so desperate that he had bought what he thought was liquid hydromorphone.
We tested his sample, and it came back as Xylazine. This highly concerned him.
I gave him Xylazine, Benzodiazepines, and fentanyl strips and recommended he test his product at home to confirm our findings. He came back a few days later and said he was appalled by what the results had been and had thrown out the "hydromorphone". We were able to connect him with a doctor and he was overjoyed. He repeatedly thanked us and said everything happens for a reason!
This brought me so much joy! I'm so grateful to have the Amplifi ID Drug Checking System to help our clients make better informed decisions regarding their drug use. It really does make a difference.
Thank you, thank you!”
Fentanyl Poisoning in Crack Sample
“A woman had a bad overdose at our site. When she woke up she told us it was so unexpected because she was smoking what she thought was crack. Upset, she asked me to test her drugs. When i tested her "crack" i got fluorofentanyl and methamphetamine. I was able to sit with her and counsel her as understandably she was shook up. She asked me if I could discard the drug for her and I did. She thanked us for being there for her during and after her overdose and for giving us answers about the drug she had used.”
